Sir, The article `Shedding darkness' by Pulapre Balakrishnan (Sept. 13) provides interesting insights into the recent power tariff hike and its rollback by the Kerala Government. One cannot but agree with his conclusion that politicians and bureaucrats are more adept at creating problems than finding solutions to them. Power generation, transmission and distribution is a capital intensive activity and no State can afford to supply power to consumers at subsidised cost. Like any other industry it has to be managed as a profit centre. P.N. Nair, Hyderabad
