AI to operate flights from Delhi, Mumbai to Frankfurt

By Our Special Correspondent

New Delhi Sept. 19. As part of its expansion plan, Air India will introduce three flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Frankfurt on December 8, with the possibility of extending these flights to Canada for convenient connectivity between India and Canada.

This was stated by the Civil Aviation Minister, Shahnawaz Hussain, during a meeting with the Canadian Transport Minister, David M. Collenette, in Ottawa on Wednesday.

Describing this as a positive development, Mr. Collenette said the two airlines should discuss these issues within the framework of the bilateral air services agreement between the two countries.

The two Ministers held discussions on civil aviation issues of mutual interest in a cordial atmosphere. The Indian High Commissioner in Canada, Shashi Tripathi, was present besides other Indian and Canadian officials, a press release from Air India said.

The talks centred on possible areas of cooperation. The Minister noted the need for fail-safe civil aviation security systems in view of the increased threats and the strong security apparatus in place in the two countries. The multilateral cooperation through the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) was appreciated and bilateral exchange of information was agreed upon. The potential for economic cooperation was also discussed.

Mr. Hussain brought forth the MoU signed with the Canadian Company, CHC Helicopter International Incorporated for global contracts. The two sides also discussed the Indian programme for restructuring of major airports to upgrade them to the highest international standards with private sector investment and management and the Canadian experience of private sector involvement in infrastructure development.
