By S. Anil Radhakrishnan
As part of this, laminated and bar-coded Registration Cards along with computer-generated tax licences would be issued for all transport and non-transport vehicles registered in the State capital from Monday. The 800 sq.ft hall on the right side of the RTO building at Vazhuthacaud, which was being used by the Motor Vehicle Inspectors and by officials of the tax wing till now, has been spruced up and converted into the computer centre. As many as 15 terminals have been set up and all services pertaining to fees and tax would be provided from the centre from Monday. The training to the staff to handle the computers of the centre has already begun. The Transport Minister, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, accompanied by the State Transport Commissioner, K.P. Somarajan, and the Senior Deputy Transport Commissioner, Alex Paul, and other officials of the MV Department inspected the facilities at the centre today. Of the computers installed in the centre, one will be earmarked for collecting fees, one for enquiry, three for data entry, three for jobs connected to new and old vehicles, two for the verifying officers and one for the issuing officers. The laminated RC, which has all details as in the old RC book, has the registration number, details of the vehicle owner and other particulars of the vehicle in the front page. In the last page, the additional particulars of the vehicle, details of hypothecation, if any, of the vehicle, details of tax paid, date of registration of the vehicle, its validity along with signature of the owner and registering authority are given. The inside pages have been left blank for sticking the tax endorsements. In addition to bar code provided to ensure that it is not tampered, the State's emblem and the registration number of the vehicle are superimposed on the first and last pages. The RC would come in handy for all class of motorists as the department insists that the original registration certificate should be carried in the vehicle along with other documents. A new RC card will be issued to the vehicle owner once there is endorsements like cancellation of hypothecation, change of ownership and change of address of the vehicle owner. The registration of new vehicles, which is being done at the RTO (Nationalised Sector) functioning in the Transport Bhavan, Fort, at present would be shifted to the RTO at Vazhuthacaud. The mandatory inspection to be carried out by the Motor Vehicle Inspectors to confirm details such as engine, the engine and chassis numbers will be carried out at Poojapura. Along with this, all work connected with driving licences would be shifted to Computer Aided Learners Licence System (CALLS) centre at Fort.
