By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI SEPT. 20. The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, B. Subhashan Reddy, today inaugurated a permanent and continuous Lok Adalat for mentally challenged persons.

Noting that problems arising out of the Mental Health Act 1987 could be effectively tackled by the hassle-free provisions and work pattern of the Lok Adalat, Mr. Justice Reddy said the Legal Services Authority Act, if properly explored, would help render social justice to the needy.

The Chief Justice also announced that in a couple of weeks a permanent mechanism for the continuous functioning of an exclusive Lok Adalat for the physically handicapped persons would be established in the State. Already separate Lok Adalats were functioning in the spheres of labour, pension, gender equality, electricity board and corporation, he added.
