Images from METSAT

New Delhi Sept. 20. India's first exclusive meteorological satellite, METSAT, today took the Earth's image in full-frame mode with the successfully switched on Very High Resolution Radiometer (VHRR).

The VHRR was switched on at 12:45 hours IST on Thursday, an ISRO release said.

The VHRR has the capacity to take images of the Earth in three spectral bands — visible, water vapour and thermal infrared. The pictures provide a spatial resolution of 2 km x 2 km in visible band and 8 km x 8 km in water vapour and thermal infra-red bonds. The images received at Hassan which were taken in all three spectral bands are of excellent quality.
