CHENNAI, SEPT. 21. A spate of product launches and active participation of the State Government are a major feature of the four-day Connect 2002 international exhibition on IT, Communication Technologies and Bioinformatics which concludes on Sunday. According to the Confederation of Indian Industry-Southern Region (CII), which organised the event in cooperation with the Tamil Nadu Government, Satyam Infoway launched `ExpressMeet', a multimedia web conferencing solution. An hour-long web conference involving four people over ExpressMeet would cost just Rs. 500 against Rs. 8,000 in the case of a teleconference and Rs. 12,000 in the case of traditional video conferencing, a CII release said, quoting P. Ravi Menon, Manager-Sales Enterprise Services, Satyam Infoway. Laser Soft Infosystems launched Calculex, an exclusive banking calculator. B. Suresh Kamath, Chairman, Laser Soft, said Calculex would help banks carry out complex calculations with ease and speed and also give accurate replies in all areas related to deposits and advances. Secure Network Solutions India, dealing in computer security products on behalf of WatchGuard, U.S., introduced Firebox V Class, a high-speed security product. Frontier Software, which specialises in developing software products for rapidly building and deploying open standards based, high performance, scalable enterprise applications, introduced the Java Data Objects 3.0 (JDO) version. The new product offered scalable, secure and transactional JDO implementation for persisting java objects, said R. Ravikumar, Senior Vice-President of the company. Officials of Bay Talktech (P) Ltd., Chennai, providing IVRS and speech-to-text solutions, announced that the company was venturing into offering solutions to small call centres, starting from two seats, for which there was enough demand in the country. Axes Technologies found wide interest in its gateway product, which provides voice over IP solutions and is targeted at corporates having leased lines or ISDN lines. The STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) features a map showing points in the country where gateway connectivity has been provided, and smaller centres in Tamil Nadu, like Tiruchirapalli, Thiruvallur, Thanjavur, Madurai, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore and Coimbatore where IT-enabled services were being actively encouraged. The Tamil Nadu Government has expanded its participation in the second Connect event, with stalls on its promotional agencies like TIDCO, ELCOT, and SIPCOT. Of course, stalls of the biggies in the IT sector TCS, Bharti Telenet, Wipro, Ramco, RPG, Accel, Allsec, Apcom, ICICI Infotech, Mascon Global, Polaris, Tata Teleservices, TVS Electronics and VSNL attracted large crowds, including students and professionals.
