The bank plans to initiate new schemes aimed at young customers. "We have implemented a fusion of innovative technology along with human touch. The bank is now looking at young customers," said Janki Ballabh, Chairman of SBI. Lauding the branch for its achievements, Mr. Ballabh said the bank planned to recruit 15 to 20 per cent of its new employees from IIMs. Because of the growing need for managerial staff, management schools would be scouted for prospective SBI employees. The bank recruited over 500 personnel every year through banking examinations. As part of its technology initiative, which commenced in 2000 in the Bangalore branch of the bank, new products and core banking solutions by TCS will be implemented. It launched telebanking services along with the SBI Life Super Suraksha Scheme to mark the diamond jubilee. This group insurance scheme is aimed at deposit account holders. The bank also plans to convert its ATM cards into debit cards for the benefit of customers. The SBI Connect Scheme will be introduced shortly. Besides attracting young customers, the bank has strengthened its product portfolio for the small and medium service sector with offerings such as SME Plus, and Small Business Credit Card. Commenting on the credit off take of SBI, Mr. Ballabh said it was better compared to last year. The growth in manufacturing, service, and export segments led to its increase, he added.
