Memorial for Devi Lal

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH SEPT. 21. The Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, will lay the foundation stone of the Jan Nayak Heritage Complex in the memory of late Devi Lal, at IMT Manesar near Gurgaon on September 25.

An official spokesman said here that the complex would be developed by Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation. It would comprise four segments. The first segment will house a museum of Haryana arts and culture, displaying artefacts, traditional Haryana pottery and sculpture, rural life style items including ethnic jewellery and costumes, wall paintings and murals. This would form a major tourist attraction of the heritage complex. A college of arts will be set up in the second segment of the complex. This would attract students from all over the country for certificate courses in fine, commercial and performing arts.

He said that the third and the most important segment in this complex would have a sprawling garden with a water feature and a statue of Devi Lal. The terraced garden around the statue had been planned on the pattern of a Mughal Garden with a lavish landscaping of greenery and foliage. The fourth segment would consist of conveniences and an information centre. This would comprise shopping booths including fast food joints and eateries. The information centre would be set up for the visitors to learn about the salient features of the heritage complex through literature, picture postcards and take-away mementos.
