People will decide on choice of PM, says Mahajan

GUWAHATI Sept. 21 . The spectre of Sonia Gandhi seemed to loom large before the north-east zonal workers' meeting of the BJP here today.

From the burden of speeches delivered by the BJP leaders, it seemed as if she were contesting an election from Guwahati against a BJP candidate.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Pramod Mahajan, addressing the meeting said Rajiv Gandhi had the freedom to choose Sonia as his spouse, the Congress had the freedom to elect her party president .

"It is their choice and we have nothing to say about it'' but the people of India would decide on the country's prime minister. And they would never allow a foreigner to occupy that office, he claimed.

Though the meet was called ''north-east workers' meeting'', it was essentially an Assam show.

Around 3,000 party supporters from the adjoining districts were brought here in busloads.
