Course in Japanese for IT professionals

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI Sept. 21. The Electronic and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) is planning to launch a proactive programme to give software exporters and IT professionals proficiency in Japanese to help them focus increasingly on the expanding market in Japan.

Named the Language Related Market Access Facilitation Initiative in the Japanese IT Market, this innovative scheme of the ESC is designed to enhance positioning of Indian firms in the new market.

This initiative has the backing of the Commerce Ministry also.

According to the ESC Executive Director, D. K. Sareen, the new market is poised to grow from $123.9 billion in 2002 to $150 billion by 2004, opening up mega opportunities to Indian software firms and professionals.

Since the relatively low market share of Indian companies is mainly due to language and cultural barriers, this initiative would help remove them.

The ESC, Mr. Sareen said, has estimated that software exports from India to Japan would go up to $two billion in 2005 from $450 million at present.
