Inspire students to do well, teachers told

By Our Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM Sept. 21. If it is a school without teachers the success rate in the SSC examination is 71.19 per cent and the one with teachers accounts for a little over 78 per cent. What is the teacher's contribution then? A mere seven per cent?

Though its sounds amazing, the analysis proved to be true in respect of some institutions in Khammam district. The Collector, Arvind Kumar, pointed out at a teachers' orientation programme here on Friday that the pass percentage of students from many of the Government schools in SSC public exam had a message for both the teachers as well as the authorities in the education department.

Some of the Government and Zilla Parishad high schools, which had well-trained and experienced teaching staff failed to give the desired result in the public examination. Attributing it for want of motivation, he pointed out that some schools located in remote areas like Velerpadu, could achieve 83 per cent.

But Government high schools in the heart of Khammam town, despite the best efforts of teachers and the education department authorities ended up with the poorest pass percentage. Out of 120 students who appeared for the SSC exam in March last from the Government girls high school, Khammam, only 59 passed. The school, which achieved only 49.17 per cent was one of the few Government institutions which figured at the bottom of the results chart.

He said well motivated teachers could make the real difference. They could bring about the desired improvement.

In some cases teachers without any rich academic background were doing a splendid job. Students were quite happy and find no grievance with one such teacher working in a school at Enkoor. What matters is only motivation and commitment, he said.
