Minister visits Govt. hospital

By Our Staff Reporter

NELLORE SEPT. 21. The Information Minister, S. Chandramohan Reddy, and the MP, V. Rajeswaramma, made a surprise visit to the Government Hospital here on Saturday.

However, it turned out to be a routine visit, as the hospital in particular and other Government institutions in general are always on alert in the recent times following such an exercise by the Collector, G. Anantha Ramu.

During today's visit, a number of patients told the Minister that they were being "looked after well'' and that no money was being collected.

The Minister and the MP were, however, surprised to know that there were no disposable syringes despite assurances to that effect earlier. The staff claimed that there was no supply. The hospital had been incurring an expenditure of about Rs. 21.84 lakhs per month on salaries of staff, besides huge amounts on supply of drugs, diet and power charges.

Mr. Chandramohan Reddy advised doctors and staff to work with a team spirit and render proper service keeping in view the heavy expenditure being incurred on maintenance of the hospital. Emphasis was also made on proper sanitation. The in-charge Superintendent, Ramdas and other officials were present.
