The official programme was organised on the premises of Sri Venkateswara Government Polytechnic, where a large number of saplings, around 3,000, were planted. Speaking after launching the programme, the Tirupati Municipal Chairperson, K. Sankar Reddy, stressed the need for planting more saplings to protect environment and more importantly make efforts to protect them. Later, he participated in de-silting of the drainage on Hare Krishna road. After cleaning the Telugu Ganga pump house in the Ruia hospital campus, Mr. Sankar Reddy directed the municipal engineer, Mohan, to initiate steps to clean all Telugu Ganga pump houses in the town every month. The MLA, Ch. Krishnamurthy, the Municipal Commissioner, K. Venkateswarlu and the TUDA vice-chairman, D. Karuna Chandrababu, took part. At Sri Venkateswara University, the programme was oriented towards developing parks and improving greenery on the premises. De-weeding was taken up, with the SVU College principal, S. Jayarama Reddy, leading a team of teachers, non-teachers and students, in the gardens near the university library, Arts block, Nehru Plaza and Natural sciences building. The `Clean and green' programme was also taken up in the 15 social welfare hostels in the town under the guidance of P. Subramanyam Naidu, assistant social welfare officer, Tirupati.
