Govt. ready for peace talks: Naidu

By Our Staff Reporter

GODAVARIKHANI SEPT. 21. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has said that the Government was always ready for peace talks with the People's War of naxalites provided the latter laid down its weapons for ensuring a long-term solution to extremism in the State.

The Chief Minister, who was on a surprise visit to the Ramagundam municipality on Saturday as part of the Clean and Green programme, had a brief interaction with newsmen at the NTPC helipad.

Condemning naxalite violence, Mr. Naidu said an armed struggle was not the solution for anything.

Asked about the revival of the Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI) in Ramagundam, he said the Government was committed to it.

The Government was examining the possibility of converting the FCI into a power plant.

Heritage city

Our Warangal Staff Reporter writes:

The State Government will revive the legacy of the Kakatiya dynasty by making Warangal a heritage city, besides taking up other developmental work on the lines of Hyderabad city.

Disclosing this at a press conference here, the Chief Minister said Warangal was an important place in Telangana next to Hyderabad city.

Hence, it should be developed, preserving the age-old heritage. "The architectural beauty of Warangal Fort will be restored,'' he said.

Other developmental works the Government was contemplating in Warangal was widening the Hasanparthy to NTR statue road to 100 feet and the link road from REC to Kakatiya University.

An outer ring road was also in contemplation. "Since the outer ring road comes under the State Highway project, funds would be mobilised through various sources,'' Mr. Naidu said.

Restoration of Gundu Cheruvu, beautification of Ekasila Hill, massive plantation were among other plans of the Government for the town.

He said people, including farmers, were happy with the existing power supply. "The drought was completely unexpected'' he said, criticising the Congress leaders who were demanding uninterrupted power supply to the farm sector.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister planted saplings at the DWACRA training centre at Hasanparthy and later went on a surprise visit to MGM Hospital.

He inspected sanitation in the premises and went round the wards interacting with patients. Before concluding his visit, Mr. Naidu visited the Warangal Fort to oversee the restoration work under progress.
