Row over alleged starvation death

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM SEPT. 21. The death of a 58-year-old man at the relief camp at the Valiathura UP school on Thursday night has sparked off a row following allegations that he was a victim of starvation and lack of medical care.

Relatives of Reynold, the deceased, said he had been confined to bed for some months following paralysis of the limbs. Claiming that Reynold had been starving for days, they alleged that the Government and the City Corporation had done nothing to provide food and medical care facilities at the camp or rehabilitate the residents. The Valiathura councillor, Xavier Lopez, however, termed the reports as baseless. He said the relief camp had been functioning for years, with the residents refusing to move out.
