Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
She felt that film producing countries should enter into mutual tie-ups which would be beneficial to all concerned. Ms. Forsen was speaking at a `Meet-the-Press' programme organised at the Thiruvanananthapuram Press Club on Friday. Ms. Mona observed that such joint venture projects would make the marketing of films easier and would also help resolve the prevailing crisis in the film industry. Just as in India and most other countries, the film industry was facing a severe crisis in Sweden as well. There was a time when film production used to be funded by the Government. It was no more the case now and one cause for the crisis was lack of public funding, she maintained. Indian cinema has been able to make it really big in the international scenario. Malayalam films too have been able to establish an identity of their own, with their ability to compete in the world market, observed Ms. Mona. She has been associated in the making of films of every genre_serious, comedy, art and mainstream. Incidentally, the differentiation between art and commercial films existed in the Scandinavian countries as well, she said. She welcomed the emergence of new talents and new ideas in the world of cinema all over. With her rich experience of having worked in different departments of film-making for over 30 years and with such big directors as Ingmar Bergman and his son Daniel Bergman, besides Hasse and Tage, Ms. Mona has just taken charge as the Director of Studies of the Academy of Film and Television Art (AFTA), which is to be opened in Thiruvananthapuram next month. Ms. Forsen said it was her first visit to India. She had been highly impressed by Mira Nair's `Monsoon Wedding' and the Malayalam movie `Sammohanam'. ] "I would love to work with Mira Nair in any of her productions,'' Ms. Mona said.
