Attempt on candidates

SRINAGAR SEPT. 22. Militants today attacked the house of the Congress candidate from Shopian, Mohammad Shafi Bandey, by hurling grenades. Mr. Bandey escaped unhurt while the grenades damaged to two vehicles. In the same area, NC candidate, Sheikh Rafi's house was also attacked. The guards returned the fire but no life was lost.

Twelve civilians were injured when militants hurled a grenade towards a vehicle carrying security forces at Shopian market. Two BSF jawans were killed and one injured when militants ambushed their vehicle at Sangam in South Kashmir. A policeman posted there was injured in the retaliatory fire by the BSF. The National Conference block president, G.M. Parray, was killed by militants in Soibugh area of Budgam district.
