Mayor's first political victory

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI SEPT. 24. The Delhi Mayor, Jaishree Panwar, yesterday recorded her first political victory at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi when, virtually bowing to her demand, the Municipal Commissioner, Rakesh Mehta, ordered removal of the Municipal Secretary, Meera Akolia.

It may be recalled that after keeping a low-profile for the first few months, Ms. Panwar had wielded her authority by asking for removal of Ms. Akolia last week following large-scale complaints against her by the party Councillors.

A number of Councillors both from the ruling and Opposition parties had reportedly complained to her about Ms. Akolia, alleging that she was not available to them and at times misguided them on important matters. Mr. Mehta yesterday ordered transfer of Ms. Akolia.
