The chief convener of the yatra, Jayantibhai Barot, said the decision had been taken in deference to the wishes of the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party as a mark of respect to those killed in the attack. The rath yatra was scheduled to start from the pilgrim town of Ambaji and move through some of the north Gujarat districts. It is the second time that the yatra from Ambaji is being postponed. The inaugural run of the yatra from the same place on July 4 had to be cancelled at the behest of the BJP high command following apprehension of violence. Mr. Barot said that the new dates for starting the yatra would be announced later.
