Left to observe 'communal harmony day'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI SEPT. 26. The Left parties today expressed concern that certain communal forces were determined to ``sharpen the communal polarisation'', threatening the unity and integrity of the country.

At a meeting, the leaders of the CPI(M), the CPI, the RSP and the AIFB condemned the terrorist attack on the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, and conveyed their condolences to the families of those killed. They appealed to the people to be vigilant and not fall prey to any provocation by communal forces.

The Left parties would observe October 2 as `communal harmony day' all over the country.

The meeting was attended by the CPI(M) general secretary, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, politburo members, S. Ramachandran Pillai, Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury, the CPI general secretary, A.B. Bardhan, its national secretary, D. Raja, the Forward Block general secretary, Debabrata Biswas, and G. Devarajan and the RSP national secretary, Abani Roy.

The CPI-ML (Liberation) has announced a nation-wide protest on Saturday with a call ``no to terrorism, no to communal fanaticism''.

It would hold a march for peace in Ahmedabad on the day, while in Delhi the party activists would commemorate the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground.
