Cong. seeks explanation from Karunakaran's daughter

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI SEPT. 29. A letter has been sent by the Congress high command to Padmaja Venugopal, daughter of senior Kerala Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, asking her to explain her role in organising a "parallel" meeting of electricity workers in defiance of the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, who was engaged in sorting out the issue.

Disclosing this today, the Congress general secretary, Ambika Soni, also said that the "law would take its own course" in the case of another MLA, Shobana George, suspected to have played a role in a forged document case on the basis of which the allegation of being involved in a `hawala' racket was levelled against the Kerala Tourism Minister, K.V. Thomas.

The central party office would wait for a report on the matter from the Pradesh Congress Committee, she said, before taking further action.

Ms. Soni hinted that the party would not look the other way when Congressmen make statements that harm the party's image. Firmer and stronger disciplinary action against errant party workers at all levels would be taken in the future, she added.
