Mr. Ashok Soni, who was in Chennai to announce a series of marketing initiatives for Voltas air-conditioners, said besides refrigerators, the company was also churning out fizzy coolers for Pepsi and Amul. In air-conditioners, he said, the company would launch a new range of room and split air-conditioners in February-March next. These products would have improved energy efficiency ratio. It would also launch 0.8 tonne air-conditioners, targeted at people in coastal areas and for smaller homes. The company had embarked on a major exercise to `rejuvenate' the Voltas brand. It would use service as a key differentiator of its brand building exercise. Last year, the company had earmarked Rs. 60 crores for brand building and marketing to be spent over a period. It had so far spent about Rs. 12 crores on its new brand `Vertis' and for setting up additional outlets and `Voltas Domes'.
