Man fires at U.N. building, caught

By Our Legal Correspondent

UNITED NATIONS OCT. 3: U.N. security guards apprehended a man who fired from a pistol at the United Nations headquarters today, but said no one was injured. ``A number of shots were fired by a male who jumped the fence from First Avenue,'' the security service said in a public announcement, adding: ``No one was injured.''

``The 18th and 20th floors were hit,'' the announcement said, adding that security guards had done a floor-to-floor search.

The UN Security Council was in session at the time for a briefing by the chief United Nations arms inspector, Hans Blix, but it was unclear whether the shooting had any connection with the Iraq crisis. — AFP
