Restrain RSS, Christian body urges President

New Delhi Oct. 3. Taking a strong exception to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief, K. S. Sudarshan's ``anti-Christian'' remarks, the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) today urged the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, to prevail upon the RSS to desist from acting like an extra-constitutional authority.

Referring to the statement made by Mr. Sudarshan on Wednesday that Christian clergy was responsible for forced conversions, the GCIC alleged that the Sangh Parivar was running a ``well-orchestrated'' campaign to tarnish Christians' image in the country at the behest of the Vajpayee Government.

While urging the President to ``scrutinise'' the activities of the RSS which was ``propagating the hidden agenda of the Sangh Parivar'', the GCIC also appealed to Dr. Kalam to direct the Government to be governed by the Constitutional authority rather than by the ``hate brigade''.

``The malicious content of the Delhi speech (of the RSS chief) is to divide communities and to trigger anti-Christian sentiments in the country,'' the Christian body said in a statement here. It also objected to Mr. Sudarshan's alleged depiction of the Pope John Paul II as ``peace breaker''. — UNI
