The children, who are picked up from streets and taken care of by the centre, complained of vomiting sensation and diarrhoea after having their breakfast. They later went to play cricket and started vomiting. They were immediately shifted to the Fever Hospital where doctors put them on drips. P. Somasekhara Reddy, Resident Medical Officer (RMO), said that 54 children were brought to the hospital around 1 p.m. by the Don Bosco management. They were admitted and immediately put on saline. A team of doctors and nurses from various wards were called in for treating the children. "It's a case of food poisoning but none of them is in danger,'' Dr. Reddy said. According to some children, the food was prepared on Sunday night for dinner but they were fed fried rice supplied by some outsiders. Since the food was already prepared the warden decided to serve it the next day for breakfast after preparing tamarind rice with it. "The food was not stale when we had it but the problem started only after an hour'', said Ramesh, one of the admitted children. Dr. Reddy said the food prepared on Sunday might have been spoiled given the heat conditions prevailing in the State Lawrence, warden of the centre, said the institution presently had 40 inmates but 40 more had come from the Bhoiguda centre for Dasara holidays. He found nothing wrong with serving the food prepared the previous night. "The food was not stale and, in fact, preparing tamarind rice is the general practice at any house,'' he said.
