Warm welcome for Shiv Kapur

By Our Sports Reporter

NEW DELHI OCT. 8. The Asian Games golf champion, Shiv Kapur, who arrived here on Monday night after his conquest in Busan, South Korea, was warmly greeted by his family and a few officials of from the Indian Golf Union (IGU).

Sadly, there was no one from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to offer him an official welcome otherwise accorded by the Government. The SAI officials nonetheless have had received other members of the Indian contingent who returned empty-handed last week.

But for Shiv, the presence of his parents and sister, and those who have closely followed his rise in golf, was more than he could have asked for.

Kapur's spectacular triumph in the individual event, which brought second gold medal for India, was worth its weight in gold, considering the kind of weather conditions and the opponents he was up against.

The Indian golf team also came to receive Shiv. The golden boy had taken the Thai Airways flight via Bangkok while the other three, Manav Das, Keshav Mishra and Harender Prasad Gupta, came by Air India from Hong Kong. The time was less and he had many fans to attend to.

Shiv was moved by the gesture shown by a group of caddies from the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) course where he took up the game when he was eight years old.
