The AIFF has received further boost with LG Electronics India signing up as title sponsor for the upcoming event. Host Manipur will square off with Himachal Pradesh in the opening match of the LG Santosh Trophy at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal, on October 17. In the four-group quarterfinal league, the winner of the each group will qualify for the semifinals. The DD Sports will telecast live 16 matches the opener, 12 quarterfinal league matches, the semifinals and the final, said the AIFF Honorary Secretary, Alberto Colaco. A daily highlights package would be telecast by Ten Sports, he added. The AIFF has brought in a major change in its policy about participation of players in the Santosh Trophy. Any player can be requisitioned by his respective original State association irrespective of where he is currently registered. There would, however, be some exception as the AIFF has made it clear that those figuring in the India under-20 team and those who play for Mohun Bagan and Churchill Brothers would be exempted this time. Also, Railways and Services will have the authority to retain its players. The groupings: Group I: IFA (Bengal), Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir; Group II: Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Chandigarh; Group III: Punjab, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh; Group IV: Manipur, Pondichery, Himachal Pradesh; Group V: Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar; Group VI: Services, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim; Group VII: Karnataka, Haryana, Gujarat, Tripura; Group VIII: Orissa, Delhi, Nagaland and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
