Statement found false

Mumbai Oct. 8 . Celluloid star Salman Khan, arrested in a hit-and-run case, today failed to establish during police interrogation the identity of the owner of the vehicle, which rammed into a bakery here killing one person.

The Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Chagan Bhujbal, said Mr. Khan ``has failed to give details about how the car came to him. He could not give proof as to whether he had purchased it or it was gifted to him. What he said was found to be false.''

Mr. Salman had told the police that the car belonged to one Abdul Rahim in Kerala. However, the police had failed to trace the owner of the vehicle so far.
