Golf
By Our Sports Reporter
Arjun and Ghei, with an aggregate of eight-under 136, were three strokes ahead of third-placed Jumman. Ghei, who had opened with 67 on Tuesday, just about managed a round of 69 and was clearly upset with the way he played on Wednesday. He had birdies on the third and the fifth holes but were offset by bogies on the par-4s fourth and ninth. On the inward nine, Ghei birdied the par-4 11th hole and then birdied par-5s 14th and 18th. After struggling with his driving on the first day, Arjun was back to his old self. "Today was lot better than yesterday. I hit the ball better and I played solid golf after the bogey at second,'' said Arjun. He had birdies on the first, sixth and eighth on the outward nine and on the 10th, 14th and 18th on the home stretch. Overnight leader Jumman, who surprised himself with a 66 on Tuesday, carded 73 and was placed third on the leaderboard. Amritinder Singh, Ashok Kumar and Vinod Kumar shared the fourth spot, with a two-round score of 140 each. Elsewhere, Jyoti Randhawa slowly climbed up the ladder but the effort was not enough to make it to the top groups. Randhawa followed his 73 with a round of 70 and was tied for the 10th position with three others. The cut was applied at eight-over 152 and 53 players made it to the money-making rounds. Asian PGA Tour regular Indrajit Bhalotia was the player who got eliminated in the process. After a round of 76 on the first day, Bhalotia messed up his campaign with 81 on Wednesday and bowed out. The scores: Arjun Singh (69, 67) and Gaurav Ghei (67, 69) 136; Jumman (66, 73) 139; Amritinder Singh (69, 71), Ashok Kumar (70, 70) and Vinod Kumar (71, 69) 140; Uttam Singh Mundy (70, 71) and Shiv Prakash (69, 72) 141; Rafiq Ali (72, 70) 142; Ali Sher (71, 72), Basad Ali (70, 73), Jyoti Randhawa (73, 70) and Rohtas Singh (72, 71) 143; Chand Mia (74, 70), Dinesh Kumar (73, 71), Mohammed Salim (72, 72) and Vijay Kumar (71, 73) 144; K.S. Sibia (74, 71), Mohammed Yamin (72, 73), Ranjit Singh (76, 69) and S.S.P. Chowrasia (70, 75) 145; Ajay Kumar Yadav (76, 70), Asgar Ali (73, 73) and Mohammed Islam (74, 72) 146; Vishal Singh (74, 73), Gast Ram (75, 72) 147.
