No water: Krishna

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE OCT. 9. The Karnataka Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, has reiterated that water would not be released to Tamil Nadu as the matter was pending before the Supreme Court.

Addressing presspersons at Kuvempu College, near Channapatna, he said that making remarks on such a sensitive issue should be avoided as the matter was sub judice.

On the filing of another contempt of court petition against him by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. Krishna said, "It is the privilege of Jayalalithaa to do so.''

He was confident that the crisis would end soon. "Nature has always played a useful role and it has happened year after year,'' he said. On the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's role in resolving the issue, Mr. Krishna said Mr. Vajpayee had acted on every request of the State.

His trip to foreign countries had been planned earlier and he could not be blamed. Mr. Vajpayee's trip involved international cooperation and relations, Mr. Krishna said and added "I am grateful to Mr. Vajpayee for taking note of the issue.''
