Every year, the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Institute for Advanced Study) hosts up to 40 Fellows from all over the world. For this year, from the middle of October 2002 to the beginning of August 2003, Prof. M.P. Singh is going to be in the company of other scholars from all over the world belonging to different disciplines, who would be working on individual projects of their choice. The disciplines range from social to pure sciences, humanities, literature, music, fine arts, law, etc. Says Professor John Mansfield, John H. Watson Professor of Law at the Harvard Law School, Harvard University, ``Much of Professor Singh's most valued work has been focused on constitutional law in a comparative perspective, so that in conferring a fellowship on Professor Singh, the Institute not only gives him a well-deserved recognition, but brings to European academic circles wisdom gained from the close study of the unique experience of law that India has had over the past fifty years.'' Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer, former Judge, Supreme Court of India, commented, ``He has commanded my admiration for his excellence in his writings in constitutional law. Indeed, he has won my heart for his simplicity and earned my respect for his profound learning, particularly in the progressive fields of minority rights, affirmative action and social justice''. According to C. Rajkumar, Lecturer, School of Law, City University of Hong Kong, it is truly notable that this year, Professor M.P. Singh is the only Indian scholar invited at the Institute for Advanced Study. He is also the first lawyer invited from India. Only a few scholars in the past have been invited from India in other disciplines such as history, sociology, etc. Professor M.P. Singh is going to pursue his research on ``Human Rights and Protection of Minorities: A Comparative Study with Reference to India'', a topic that is of crucial contemporary relevance.
