Asian Games
China won the silver with a 4-0 win over host South Korea. Japan, which beat Taiwan 2-0 earlier, settled for the bronze. Jin Pyol Hui opened the North's scoring in the 16th minute and added a 42nd-minute penalty. Ri Kum Suk and Yun Yong Hui each headed in a goal in the second half. The 2001 Asian champion finished the tournament with four wins and one draw, securing an unbeatable lead before the China-South Korea match. Yayoi Kobayashi and Yuka Miyazaki scored early in the game as Japan beat Taiwan. With that win, the Japanese stayed within range of the silver with a total of three wins, one draw and one loss. But China took second place with three wins and two draws. South Korea had two wins and three losses, ahead of Taiwan and Vietnam with one draw and four losses each. On Sunday, Japan plays Iran for the men's gold medal.
