MiG aircraft crashes in Assam

Tezpur (Assam) Oct. 11. A MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed on a thatched house in a field near a village in Assam's Sonitpur district today. Both the pilots, however, bailed out safely.

Official sources said there was no casualty on the ground as the inmates of the house, in Khanmukh Rajgarh village, ran out to safety when the aircraft came hurtling down in a ball of fire. The aircraft, from the Tezpur base, was on a routine sortie when it crashed at about 2.10 p.m. This is the third aircraft of the Tezpur IAF base to crash this year.

In another incident in Allahabad a trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force today force landed at an airbase here after developing engine trouble.

``The engine of the HPT-32 trainer aircraft developed a snag while in flight, however, the pilot managed to land the aircraft back at the airfield,'' Air Force sources said adding it was piloted by a Navy aviator.— PTI
