Blast in Kathmandu

Kathmandu Oct. 12. At least one person was killed and a statue of the former King, late Mahendra, father of King Gyanendra, was completely destroyed when a powerful bomb exploded at the busy Kalimati Street early this morning, police said. The bomb planted by suspected Maoists exploded at 5.15 a.m., leaving at least one person killed and 10 others, including two policemen injured, officials at the Kalimati police station said. The explosion came weeks after the security forces destroyed the statues erected in memory of those Maoist rebels killed during the insurgency in Jaljala area of Rolpa district.
