Gopi Chand ousted

BUSAN Oct. 12. The Indian hopes in the badminton events fell like autumn leaves at the Gangseo gymnasium courts on Saturday with P. Gopi Chand being virtually blown away by South Korean Shon Seung-Mo 15-9, 15-11 in just 53 minutes.

Much against expectations, the men's singles quarterfinals hardly rose to the expected-level with Gopi Chand showing little of the form exhibited in the last two days. The India No.1 was having one of his off-days and the second-seeded South Korean was scarcely troubled as he scored his first win over Gopi Chand in three head-to-head meetings.
