Curfew extended in Solapur

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI Oct. 13. Police today extended the curfew in the communally-charged textile town of Solapur, some 400 kms from here, till Monday morning.

Though there were no disturbances during the two-hour curfew relaxation this morning to enable people to buy essentials, the town with a population of 1.1 million did witness minor incidents in far-flung areas, especially the slums. At a peace committee meeting today, more people offered to make renewed efforts to restore peace and confidence between the two communities.

UNI reports:

One person was injured in Vijaynagar area today when police resorted to firing to disperse two clashing groups. Police said 45 persons were arrested.
