BCCI to review itinerary in Gujarat

Mumbai Oct. 16. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to look afresh at staging three one-day internationals, all in a week's time, in Gujarat in November.

The Board allotted the one-day internationals to the cricket associations of Saurashtra, Gujarat and Baroda on the basis of a rotation policy it follows. These matches are to be held at Rajkot (November 12), Ahmedabad (day-night) (November 15) and Baroda (November 18).

After the final Test in Kolkata (October 30-November 3), India and West Indies will play seven one-day internationals. The first will be played at Jamshedpur (November 6) and second at Nagpur (November 9) before the matches in Gujarat. The sixth match will be played at Jodhpur on November 21 and seventh at Vishakapatnam on November 24.

The seven associations are looking forward to stage the matches because it will receive a sum close to Rs. 1 crore each as subvention money from the Board. The BCCI disburses specific

amounts for centres staging Tests, one-day internationals and three-day games and also a sizeable sum to other affiliated units from the Rs. 45 crores it receives from Prasar Bharati as television rights money.

A senior BCCI official said on Wednesday that the Board had announced the programme months ago, but it would `review the programme' should there be a need, and we will take a decision only after consulting respective associations.

According to the secretary of Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Mr. Niranjan Shah, "Gujarat celebrated a peaceful and incident-free Navratri. Thousands of people were on the streets and maidans for nine nights. One had to be in Gujarat to believe it. There should not by any security fears,'' he said.
