Letters to the Editor
Sir, The European Commission's analysis of the tense situation in the Indian sub-continent (Oct. 3) comes closer to the truth than most other reports we have read. It is far more balanced than the views expressed by various American agencies. In our emotional status in being subjected to injustice and misunderstandings, frustrated at being unable to make the world see what is really happening, in the midst of the stress caused by having to deal with a neighbour who is callous and unstable, it is hardly surprising that we fail to see how perilously close we can bring this part of the world to danger. The out-dated Kashmir policies successive Governments had been hanging on to over half a century have only brought us immeasurable misery. It is time we reviewed our policies and revised them drastically. What is wrong if the Kashmir issue is internationalised? How long will we live in an illusory world and let innocent citizens die for the sake of the prestige of a few politicians? Bernard A. Thangasamy, Madanapalle, A.P.
