Letters to the Editor
Sir, The phased withdrawal of troops from the international border is unwarranted. Even with such a massive deployment of forces, the Government had admitted that there was no decrease in the level of infiltration. With an elected Government still to take office and control of the situation, it is ill-advisable to withdraw the troops. This will definitely embarrass the new Government in Jammu and Kashmir, since Pakistan will take the advantage of the fluid situation. V. Sundaresan, Hyderabad Sir, Despite heavy deployment of forces, cross-border infiltration has not ceased. In the event of the troops withdrawing, it is going to be a cakewalk for terrorists to infiltrate. The decision to pull back troops is bound to lead to more incidents like those of December 13. Puneet Razdan, Hyderabad
