Right to pre-emption

Sir, — The recent suggestion by the White House that only the U.S. has a right to pre-emptive strikes and not India or China reflects the hypocritical attitude of the U.S. The U.S. President, George W. Bush, is keen on deposing Saddam Hussein as part of personal vendetta without caring for the consequences.

Any attempt to topple Saddam Hussein will backfire on the U.S. The rise of Islamic extremism is the result of the myopic policies of the U.S.

The world community needs to check the growing gung-ho approach of the U.S.

Ashish S. Thakare,

Pune
