Pattanaik to be new CJI

NEW DELHI OCT. 18. The President has appointed Justice Gopal Ballav Pattanaik, seniormost Supreme Court Judge to be the new Chief Justice of India, succeeding Justice B.N. Kirpal, who retires on November 8. Justice Pattanak will be sworn-in on November 8 by the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. He will have a short tenure as the CJI for 41 days as he is due to retire on December 19.
