AHMEDABAD OCT. 19. The Gujarat unit of the Congress has protested the alleged defamatory remarks against the party president, Sonia Gandhi, by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary, Pravin Togadia. At a meeting held in the presence of the AICC Mahila Congress observer, Sushma Yadav, the pradesh Mahila Congress adopted a resolution demanding Dr. Togadia's arrest.

And, the Youth Congress members staged a demonstration and burnt his effigy at the Income Tax Circle here.

The resolution reminded Dr. Togadia the respect the Hindu religion, tradition and culture gave to women and asked him to issue a public apology to all the women in the country.

The pradesh Congress spokesman, Hasmukh Patel, said no one in his right senses could make such derogatory remarks against a woman.

Dr. Togadia, at a ceremony at Lodai village in Kutch district on Friday, had reportedly talked about an "Italian dog'', and the Congress leaders believe that the reference was to Ms. Gandhi.
