CHENNAI OCT. 19. As the ailing Commerce Minister, Murasoli Maran's condition "continues to be very serious", the Union Health Minister, Shatrughan Sinha, and the Director-General of Health Services, S.P. Agarwal, flew down to Chennai to personally enquire about his health.

"The Prime Minister is very concerned. We are all very concerned.

``We are here to offer all possible assistance for his speedy recovery," Mr. Sinha told the media after visiting Mr. Maran at the Apollo Hospitals.

In a cautious appraisal of Mr. Maran's condition after discussions with the medical experts attending on him, Dr. Agarwal said: "He continues to be very serious. And he continues to be on ventilator.

``But his condition is stable for the past two days and there is no deterioration in medical parameters". The Apollo Hospitals chairman, Pratap C. Reddy, who was also present, said: "Let's make no mistake. He continues to be serious".

The Union Minister of State, A. Raja, said a "new medicine", which was launched in the market only on Friday, was being given to him for the past two days and the fact that there was no deterioration in his condition offered fresh hopes.

Asked about the controversy over the treatment provided to Mr. Maran at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi leading to deterioration in his condition, Dr. Reddy shot back: "Please do not politicise professional decisions".

Mr. Sinha said there was no need to take Mr. Maran abroad for medical treatment as "the best possible" facilities were being given to him now.
