Aditya, Ilavazhagi pocket honours

NEW DELHI OCT. 20. S. Aditya of Hyderabad and I. Ilavazhagi of Tamil Nadu won the boys and girls titles respectively in the 31st National junior carrom championship, which concluded at the St. Stephen's School, Sector-45, Chandigarh, on Sunday.

The honour in the concurrently held inaugral National youth championship, went to Sandeep Deorukhar of Maharashtra and K. Suvarna of Hyderabad in the boys and girls sections respectively.

The Commissioner and Special Secretary of the Haryana government, Mr. M. Kithan, IAS, gave away the prizes.

The results:

Juniors:

Boys singles: Final: S. Aditya bt Shailesh Rathod 25-12, 25-23; Third place: Mohammed Owais bt Mohammed Saim 25-24, 25-24.

Boys doubles: Final: A. Ganeshan and Lenus Palraj bt Kishore Kumar and Bakkiaraj 25-4, 25-5; Third place: L. Surya Prakash and E. Ashok Kumar bt Abhijit Baruah and Bijoy Rabha 25-8, 25-3.

Girls singles: Final: I. Ilavazhagi bt A. Rashmi 25-0, 25-4; Third place: M. Parimala Devi bt Komal Kajrolkar 25-22, 25-0.

Girls doubles: Final: I. Ilavazhagi and Parimala Devi bt Komal Kajrolkar and Asmita Kanukale 25-0, 25-0; Third place: Olivia and Rebika bt A. Rashmi and Rohini 25-2, 18-25, 25-7.

Youth (18-21 years):

Boys: Final: Sandeep Deorukhar bt Naresh Rathod 25-13, 18-25, 25-14; Third place : Zia-ul-Hussain bt Suresh Pradhan 25-6, 21-25, 25-7.

Girls: Final: K. Suvarna bt Sujata Hylinge 25-10, 25-19; Semifinals : Sujata Hylinge bt A. Ponnarasi 25-21, 25-12; K. Suvarna bt Deepti Kesari 25-2, 25-18.
