By Mohandas Menon
** Gareth Breese's catch was Sourav Ganguly's 50th in 64 matches. He is the ninth Indian and 74th fielder overall to reach this landmark. ** The 50-run partnership in the second innings by Sanjay Bangar and Virender Sehwag was the second instance Indian openers managed to add 50-plus in each innings at this ground. The pair had put on 93 in the first innings. Sunil Gavaskar and Krishnamachari Srikkanth, in the famous tied Test against Australia in September 1986, added 62 and 55. ** Carl Hooper (2-32) recorded the best bowling figures of his career as a captain, in his 21st match. His previous best was 2-44 against the Kiwis at Grenada in June this year. Hooper now has 20 wickets in 21 matches while leading the side. ** Ganguly became the first captain to lead India to three wins against the West Indies. Nawab of Pataudi jr led India to two victories against the Windies. ** India's eight-wicket victory margin was its best in terms of wickets against the West Indies, bettering the seven-wicket win at Port of Spain in March 1971. ** This was the second time India achieved back-to-back wins against the Caribbeans. India had clinched the third and fourth Tests in Kolkata and Chennai during the 1974-75 series. ** This was India's 11th win at Chepauk in 26 matches, making it the most successful venue for the home side. India has won eight matches each at the Ferozeshah Kotla in New Delhi and Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. ** This was West Indies' seventh defeat on Indian soil in 39 matches. It has lost four matches at Chepauk, two at Wankhede and one at Eden Gardens. ** This was West Indies' 10th loss in a row in the sub-continent (including Sharjah) since November 1997. It was also the Caribbeans' 25th loss in 29 away matches during the period. ** The series win was India's third against the West Indies in 17 attempts. India won the five-match Test series in the Caribbean 1-0 in 1970-71 and the six-games Test series at home 1-0 in 1978-79.
