Emigration fee revised

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI OCT. 21. The Government has doubled the emigration fee for persons seeking employment abroad from Rs. 100 to Rs. 200. Also, a fee of Rs. 100 has been introduced for those going abroad for non-employment purposes such as tourism, business, study, etc. This fee will also be applicable to registered agents seeking clearance.

Besides, the Government has revised the fee for registration and renewal of licence by recruiting agents engaged in sending Indian workers overseas. The new rate will be Rs. 2,000 against the existing rate of Rs. 500. A permission fee of Rs. 2,000 to be paid by the project exporters and foreign employers while applying for permission to deploy workers has also been introduced.

The new fee structure will come into effect from November 1 this year and is expected to generate over Rs. 6 crores as additional revenue to the Government. The new fee structure has been introduced on the basis of amendments to the Emigration Rules, 1983.
