In the men's team championship final, IOC defeated Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) `B' by three matches to nil to retain the title. For IOC, K. Ramesh Babu beat Balu Kankule (BPCL-B) 2-0, Yogesh Pardeshi beat Yatin Deshmukh 2-0 and Simon Isaac beat Karunamurthy 2-0. In the women's section, a four-team round robin affair, IOC won all three matches to emerge champion. Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), with two wins, finished runner-up. On the personal count Sangam Vasava (ONGC-A) of Maharashtra scored a `white slam' against P.S. Agarkar (Hindustan Petroleum) in the match for the third place following a `white slam' in the semifinals and a `black slam' in the quarterfinals to complete a hat-trick of slams. Both the men's and women's individual championships started on Tuesday. The finals are scheduled on Friday.
