The Cabinet meeting, presided over by the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, decided that there would be no official celebration in the State on Diwali due to this tragic incident. Earlier in the day, Mr. Chautala visited Gurgaon and met the members of the families of the victims of mob violence and assured them that stringent action would be taken against the guilty. The victims included Dayachand and Virender of Badshahpur village, Tota of Akleempur village, and Raju of Tikli village. He consoled the families and said that the Divisional Commissioner of Rohtak, R.R. Banswal, was conducting an inquiry. He assured them that the inquiry could be conducted by any other agency if they so desired. At the same time, he said, he had appointed the Divisional Commissioner of Rohtak as Inquiry Officer because he himself belonged to the Dalit community. Mr. Chautala assured them that his Government would provide them adequate financial assistance.
