Vij, next Army chief

New Delhi Oct. 31. Lt. Gen. Nirmal Chand Vij, will take over as the Chief of the Army Staff succeeding Gen. S. Padmanabhan, who lays down office on December 31.

Commissioned into the Dogra Regiment, Lt. Gen.Vij, was the Director General of Military Operations during the Kargil conflict, and, thereafter, headed the Southern Command before taking over as the Vice-Chief of the Army Staff.
