4 lakh employees yet to get pay

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai Nov. 3. For at least four lakh government employees in Tamil Nadu, who were on strike for eight days, it would be a Deepavali without salary.

The strike demanding higher pay and other benefits cost them dearly. Even after calling off their agitation on Friday, they not only lost pay for the strike period, but also could not get their salary in time for the festival. Though the Finance department asked the Treasuries to be kept open on Deepavali-eve for disbursal of salaries, the striking employees did not collect their pay tokens on Friday to get their cheques.
